오프셋 체어 / Offset Chair
2022년 첫 프로토타입 제작 후, 등받이와 좌판의 각도 및 곡면을 조정하여 재완성한 의자입니다. 이름인 ‘오프셋(Offset)’은 의자에 사용된 직사각형 부재들이 정형화된 구조에서 벗어나 의도적으로 어긋나게 배치되어 결합되는 형태에서 비롯됩니다. 부재들은 넓은 면과 좁은 면의 대비를 가진 채 서로 관통하거나 교차하여, 보는 방향에 따라 선과 면, 그리고 깊이의 대조와 음영의 변화를 드러냅니다. 이러한 접근은 게릿 리트벨트와 마르셀 브로이어의 기하학적 의자 구조에서 영감을 받아, 단순한 요소안에서 다양한 시각적 대비를 탐구한 시도입니다.
After the first prototype in 2022, the chair was re-developed by adjusting the angle and curvature of the backrest and seat. The name ‘Offset’ derives from its use of rectangular members that break away from a standardized order, intentionally misaligned and interlocked. These members, with their contrast between wide and narrow faces, penetrate and intersect one another, revealing shifts of line, plane, depth, and shadow depending on the viewer’s position. This approach, inspired by the geometric chair structures of Gerrit Rietveld and Marcel Breuer, represents an attempt to explore diverse visual contrasts within a single elemental form.
